Dusky Dolphin is a common coastal species in the subantarctic oceans and is often found in large groups of several hundred individuals.
The newborn calf in the photo below (to the right of its mother) was less than a week old since the foetal crease was still visible. When in the womb, dolphin foetuses lie folded with their tail beside their head. This results in a visible crease in the skin which takes over a week to disappear after the calf is born.
